Algae as a Source of Omega-3 Oils |
Omega-3 fatty acids are considered to be essential fatty acids as the body cannot produce them, and we can only get them in our food such as fish. The fact is that fish do not produce omega 3 oils - it is algae which is eaten by fish that provides omega 3 fatty acids and other beneficial characteristics that make fish oil so popular to the nutraceutical market. Our goal is to produce omega-3 acids directly from algae. The algae derived oils will be easier to digest and available to the body, will be more environmentally sustainable, provide a vegetarian source of omega 3 oil,s and one that is eliminates the concern of heavy metal content. Omega 3 oil is currently the number one selling nutraceutical. There are numerous health benefits: Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids may help lower risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. It has shown to aid in reducing chlolesterol, lower blood pressure, facilitate treatment of diabetes, helps reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, aid in recovery of chemo treatment and aids in the treatment of mental illness.
